I had a strange experience this morning. I was going through numerous boxes of albums (where sadly a good chunk of the collection my husband and I share is kept, due to limited display space) and was quite surprised to find some albums I could have sworn I'd never even heard, let alone owned. The albums in question were various Neal Morse ones, which were notable because I remembered making a post on Adam's review of One (just over a month ago) specifically saying that I should check more Morse stuff out, as I'd only heard One, ? & Sola Scriptura. Now here I find I actually own Testimony 1 & 2, Lifeline, and some other stuff he's done such as a lot of Spock's Beard's discography.

Have you ever forgotten you owned something? It's a first for me. I now feel like I'm liable to buy something I already own. Embarrassed

Not to that extent but I'm at the point with my collection that I'm going to have to start doing what you do: have a primary collection that is displayed for albums that are most likely to come out the most often and a secondary collection that gets boxed away and may get a cursory revisit every once it a while. I already have to do that with my movie collection. So who knows in the future? I've not as yet accidentally bought the same album (or movie) twice.

I've rebought on impulse an album that I later realised I already owned. It happens the other way too. I've gone looking for albums that I'm convinced I own, and find no trace of them physically or as a ripped download. Perhaps I used to have them on vinyl or cassette.

That's why I like to keep a record of what I own, which I update every time I buy something new. That way I can easily check instead of physically going through everything, something which is going to be much more handy once I have to split my CDs up.

I always meant to as well, but that's a lot of physically sorting and cataloguing to do.

I´ve purchased the same Barclay James Harvest album twice (Octoberon), because I couldn´t remember that I had already purchased it...and with only a few months between the two purchases...silly me Wacko. What is more silly is, that I still haven´t had the time to listen to the album(s). So I´ve purchased the same album twice and haven´t even listened to it LOL

I accidentally bought second copies of Judas Priest's Sin After Sin and Anathema's Judgement, both from bargain bins, after forgetting I owned them already.

I luckily don't own enough to have an issue with storage space.

Translation: I don't have a big enough collection. Cry

Oh yes, happened quite a few times over the years but off the top of my head I can't think of when I've bought something twice accidently. I have around 4000 albums so hardly surprising I guess. I keep them catalogued so can easily check if I need to.

I forget I own albums all the time, it doesn't help that my collection is pretty large.
Be excellent to each other.

Ahh...I actually did it again a few days ago. I purchased 10cc´s "Deceptive Bends" on vinyl again, although I already owned it...now I have two vinyl copies of that album Disapprove (and a CD copy too)

I don't think I've done it accidentally but about 15 years ago, I had to purchase a second copy of blink-182's Dude Ranch as it got stuck in a HiFi. The same thing happened to my first copy of In the Court of the Crimson King but this time it got stuck in my car CD player. It was sadly sold as scrap along with the rest of the car. That CD was also purchased again.

Star baby, did you deep fry a piece of the Great Barrier Reef?

I lost a DVD like this when my player abruptly died. I'd only bought it that morning. Luckily second hand and all's well that ends well since the player was still in guarantee and Amazon gave me a hefty £30 in credit to replace it because it was rare, along with a replacement player.

My copy of Wednesday 13's Fang Bang also went west with my car, but that was due to a crash. Haven't repurchased it, because I haven't seen it on CD again, and I haven't looked too hard.
