What style do you prefer in the power metal sub-genre, US or European?

Not really a fan of the genre. I really like Blind Guardian and they're Euro but I prefer Nevermore which is the "US" style.
So yeah...idk no vote I guess |

If I feel all gay and whimsical its Euro power metal but if Im feeling butch its US power. Basically I like both styles in the right doses. Ive voted US though.

U.S. power metal doesn't do anything for me. Euro power metal feels like how power metal should be.

I don't think I can choose. I know I've bashed European power metal for being too cheesy, but when European power metal gets it right (according to me), then it's really friggin' awesome - I mean, "Keeper of the Seven Keys I & II" and bands like Pertness and Firewind are also very awesome.
It also seems that a new species of European power metal is developing which draws heavily on the Gothenburg-sound like Amaranthe or Raintime for instance. This sort of metal has the heavy Gothenburg guitar sound, but also incorporates a considerable amount of pop music into the style, and from traditional European power metal it has inherited the catchy choruses. |

I voted for USPM, although my favourite power metal bands are both actually German, but they're more of the hard hitting riff driven power metal side than what is typically defined as EuroPM:
My favourite USPM act that is actually from the US has to be however: |

Great anology.
Some of the Euro power bands I find pompous and lush, maybe weak(lame) would be also another verb that could describe some bands as does some symphonic metal bands as well, as I'm a huge fan of symphonic prog, some or most artists from these two sub-genres take it over the top. Epic...?
US power bands seem to, for the most part have an overlap with prog/metal and a more simple, straight ahead, inyour face metal approach.

I really like both... I'll vote American, but it's not by much.

I can't really get into power metal, though Nevermore (power/thrash/trad hybrid) have some cool songs/albums. Hall of the Mountain King by Savatage and Awaken the Guardian by Fates Warning (power/prog) are sort of cheesy, but I can listen to those albums. I guess I'll go US.

There is only 1 good euro power metal band as far as I'm concerned (that would be Blind Guardian) but there are at least a couple US power metal bands I like
