So, I'm quite curious if there are any traditional ("paper and pencil") RPG players/storytellers/game masters in our quite unusual community
I used to be a "regular" game master when I was in high school but as the studies are really absorbing, I play only occasionally these days. But a few days ago, despite all my duties, I decided to write a scenario set in the roaring 20s in New York, and an idea of asking you about it came to my mind. So, do you know what RPGs are? Have you ever played one? And if so, which is your favourite? I think RPG is one of the best kinds of intellectual entertainment and a perfect way to spend time with other people. If you haven't tried it before, it's high time you do it! Edited by bartosso - 27 Feb 2012 at 4:25pm |

I played Warhammer for a while when I was around 13 - 14 years old. We had a pretty brilliant game master, who was able to make the stories really cool. We were 5 - 6 guys who played and it was a really nice relaxing experience. I think we played for about a year and then it faded out.

I've played quite a few RPG videogames, but never a traditional tabletop RPG. It's something I'd be interested in trying at some point, though.

I played D&D once as a teen. Some buddies and I got together and tried it. As far as I can recall, we only did it the one time.

I used to play Warhammer 40k like, once every few months maybe
I was thinking of pen and paper things though so I voted no before I read the posts here Edited by Triceratopsoil - 28 May 2012 at 9:41pm |

I don't know, I just didn't really think of the whole Warhammer thing as an rpg, I guess.

I used to play a Scandinavian RPG called Drager og Dmoner (the original Swedish title was something along the lines of Drakar och Dmonar - Dragons and Demons in English). Although it appears to be a mere rip-off of Dungeons and Dragons, I think it is superior to Dungeons and Dragons, which I tried a couple of times, too, without enjoying it as much as Drager og Dmoner.
I also played a bit of SmlfQuest / SmurfQuest, which was great fun, and I think I tried Shadow Run once, as well, playing a Arnie-like cyborg character. |

I played a lot of Warhammer 40k and a bit of Warhammer from 2000-2004.
I'll still read the better novels and play the better videogames that are based on the fiction, but I'm a very casual fan now. |

I actually never read RPG-based literature. I read half a D&D novel once, but found it too boring to finish it. I've read a lot of Fighting Fantasy-stuff though, which I think is absolutely fantastic. I even have a couple of books with Steve Jackson and Ian Livinstone's autographs in them.
I remember drawing a complete map of the city in The City of Thieves and using it on one of our own Drager og Dmoner scenarios :-) |

I read two D&D novels (it's an rpg I can't stand actually, I can't really remember what made me read them) and while one was utterly worthless, the second one wasn't that bad. From what I heard, Warhammer novels are better.
What an awesome mom!

Never did it. Does it have to be an in person thing or are there online versions of it now? I'm kinda interested in Warhammer 40k since there's been a ton of people going on about it.

I used to be a RPG player 6 years ago, before University. Three weeks ago, me and my old friends of RPG (and some newbies) reunited for a one day quest. Lots of fun! We utilize a brazilian system named Daemon.

There are sessions played online on forums, skype or chats. Those on forums are a bit different though, there's more emphasis on narration and storytelling while the game mechanics doesn't really matter (they actually can't work).
