So, we now have to Queensrches: one featuring the Todd LaTorre on vocals and the rest of the old band, and one which features Geoff Tate on vocals and Kelly Gray on guitars and a bunch of other musicians. Both Queensrches have recently released singles from their forthcoming albums. The question is, which single sounds more like Queensrche: "Redemption" (w. LaTorre) or "Cold" (w. Tate).
"Redemption" (w. LaTorre) "Cold" (w. Tate) |

First of all I think it sounds like there is a comeback in the making for the "old" Queensrche. Sounds pretty great to my ears.
The Geoff Tate Queensrche track sounds slightly more mainstream and not as interesting, but boy is he the superior singer and thats saying something when you think about how great La Torre is. Edited by UMUR - 06 Apr 2013 at 8:27am |

I don't know, man. I think that Tate's performance has been too laid back over the last decade, including this song. LaTorre's singing seems more dynamic and more intense (but it sucks that he uses Auto-Tune - WTF, man!!!). "Cold" is not bad, but "Redemption" is far superior and sounds more like 'real' Queensrche to me. |

...Queensryche is pulling a Rhapsody now?
Anyway, I think the song with LaTorre is better and more in the vein of traditional Queensryche. I'm looking forward to hearing both albums, though. |

I'd say I definitely dig "Redemption" more, but both songs I'd say sound like Queensryche to me. The only thing I found weird with "Redemption" is the weird vocal effects that come in around the chorus. Still the better song though.

"Queensryche Starring Geoff Tate the Original Voice" Is that seriously what he's calling that project?

This is ridiculous. Why Tate's just don't give up and release this album as a solo artist? Btw, "Redemption" is FAR better than "Cold". It's epic, heavy, intense. Finally, I have to disagree with Jonas. The voice of Geoff Tate is sounding tired to me. |

/why can't Geoff Tate just give up. why does he still have to hold on to the name. he should just grow up and let go. He was kicked out of the band so he shouldn't be able to even use the name. Tate's queensryche isn't even queensryche since he isn't suppose to even be in the band.

IMO Geoff Tate hasn't sounded good in over 20 years. His voice seriously degraded in quality since the beginning of his career.
Also in my opinion, Michael Wilton has always been the man behind the band, not Geoff Tate. So there's my answer I guess. Don't really care about either project though. |

The longer this saga goes on the more embarrassing Geoff Tate's behaviour gets.
The dude has earned a great rep and then, in the last few years, blown most of it, and it seems to me that he's convinced himself that he personally is enough of a draw to sell people on his project and eeeeh, no, don't think so. Maybe if he'd pulled this in the mid-1990s the race would be tighter but as it stands this is just painful to watch. Edited by Warthur - 16 Apr 2013 at 4:54am |

Tate had better not start asserting that the proper name for his band is "Queensryche Starring Geoff Tate the Original Voice" because that has got to be the most pretentious band name I have ever heard.

How do you spell "desperation" again?
I mean, good on the guy for trying to fix the problem but there's an obvious question here - why didn't Geoff get the mix right the first time around? - and there's no good answer other than "Geoff doesn't care how shitty the material he releases is so long as he's able to get the jump on Queensryche".

I guess this is what you expect when you're dealing with a product rush-released in a desperate attempt to improve Geoff's claim on the name before the court date in November.
