I am exploring this classic NWOBHM band's discography for the first time, and I am just curious as to what album is your favorite from them?  I had only heard a couple of Eagle Has Landed compilations and their latest album Call To Arms, which I listened to back in 2011 when I was compiling my MMA best of list.  Today, I have listened to the first three albums and am working my way through the rest of them as I find them on Grooveshark or Spotify.

Ive never really explored their disco either. Ive actually only listened to Lionheart...I saw them live on Copenhell 2012 though Tongue

NWoBHM Approve  Saxon Approve

...and I need to do the same thing, especially following their latest "Sacrifice" which is a cracking album and heavier than I remember them to have been for a while.

Saw them a number of times in the early eighties and for sentimental reasons "Wheels of Steel" will always be my personal favourite. Although SAotL does take some beating.

747, WoS, Motorcycle Man et al, awesome stuff.

That one isn't on their MMA page and I wasn't aware of it, hence it didn't make the poll.  If you have the power to add that to the poll as an Admin, please feel free to do so.

I can only amend the poll not add. I've added "Sacrifice" to their catalogue too. I guess if someone really thinks its their best they will note it within a post and I think it is unlikely anyway, however good it is! Big smile

Hopefully, I will be able to find it on-line so I can listen to it along with the rest of their discography.  If not, I will have to keep an eye open for it at the local CD shops.

That's a difficult one. The candidates for me would be something between Wheels of Steel and Power and the Glory, which I believe are also the popular and accepted classics. Crusader has the s/t HYMN of a song but the rest of the album does not hold up well. Innocense is no Excuse was my first contact with the band at the tender age of 9 and  its opener Rockin' Again remains one of my most beloved Saxon tunes - but the album is not one of their best.

Then I would also include (and recommend) in the list of masterpieces the Dogs of war and Unleash the Beast albums, which were surprisingly amazing and on par with their early classics. All their latest albums were at the very least very decent, or if you are a fan, very good. Always an AMAZING experience to see the band live. Seriously, they and Accept are like a time machine: You will feel the awesome power of an old school heavy metal gig. Which is a force some people do not appreciate and respect as they should. NEVER miss a chance to see any of those two bands. Guaranteed awesomeness. Trust me.

Anyway, have to think about my vote...
