Now that I'm nearing my death metal mega marathon I figured I'd ask the question: What are your all-time favorite top 10 death metal bands? As for myself I'm not sure JUST yet but I think it'd go a little something like this: 1.) Death(big surprise there; I'm a mega-fanboy) 2.) Vader 3.) Atheist 4.) Starkill 5.) Morbid Angel 6.) Bolt Thrower 7.) Immolation 8.) Septicflesh 9.) Necrophagia 10.) Edge of Sanity This could VERY easily change in the next 24 hours as I also rather like me some Mercenary, At the Gates, Bloodbath, etc. Curious to see what you guys got!

Excellent choice of topic!
I find it difficult to actually sort them out in order of preference. My favourite is without doubt Nile, and anything that comes after the Top 3 is in no particular order. 1) Nile 2) Bolt Thrower 3) Behemoth (if blackened death metal can be included) 4) Morbid Angel 5) Amon Amarth 6) Obscura 7) Death 8) Septic Flesh (I prefer pre-name change to post-name change though) 9) Sulphur Aeon 10) Immolation

Yeah I probably should've also mentioned that you can include stuff from its OWN subgenres: melodeath, brutal death, etc.

I'm not so well versed in Death Metal than I am Black Metal, but I guess these have to be the top 5. Lascaille's Shroud Nile MaYaN Obscura If you count Opeth they would be in here but personally I place them very firmly in the Prog Metal camp. 6 - 10 would be a bit more up in the air. The following would be it though I guess: Beyond Creation Arch Enemy (very up and down discography, but they have made two of my favourite death metal albums) Fallujah Enthean (only one album, but one hell of an album) Allegeaon |

There are so many, and not all have released consistently great albums, so some of these make my list because of one or two brillant releases and not necessarily for everything they´ve produced: Pestilence (Consuming to Spheres) Entombed (debut to Wolverine) Edge of Sanity (debut to Crimson) Morbid Angel (Altars to Covenant)Death (most of their disco)
Nile (most of their disco)
Suffocation (most of their disco)
Morgoth (both Cursed and Odium are among my favorite death metal albums)
Napalm Death
Macabre
Carcass (especially Necroticism)

Hmm not sure on all time ten but the ones that have graced my speakers the most over the last year must surely be: Augury Death (moreso the tech albums, but all the discography at some point) Nile Nocturnus/Nocturnus AD Obscura Beyond Creation Enthean Origin Gorod A massive tech death kick in other words. It's my favourite DM genre anyway, but I've had an almost exclusive focus on it lately.
