When i listen to Racer X debute, it feels more technical than your normal hair metal. It is labeld also speed metal, akin to early thrash metal bands Metalica and Slayer. When listening to Racer X debute album from 1986 it playes like an erly tech metal album. It hints at Voivod and Death like crazy technical extreme band.

Could Racer X be understood as a missing link between thrash/speed metal and tech metal/extreme metal. I know Paul Gilbert deliberatly choose the players sourrounding him in Racer X were not only placed there to back hes soloing but to create an equal ground of technical flourishing and wild playing
