This is a fucking soulless desperate cash grab. Dimebag and Vinnie didn't want to work with him anymore, so Pantera should be left to lie in peace permanently. Edited by Vim Fuego - 16 Jul 2022 at 7:35pm |

Can he do it? I thought he needed the blessing of Abbott brothers's heirs.

Fuck knows.Without Vinnie and Dimebag it may as well be a tribute band.

Hard pass on this.
If Vinnie were still alive and up for it I may feel different, but with both brothers now gone this is disrespectful on every level. I wouldn't object so much to him and Rex playing the songs of Pantera with other musicians, but I do object to them performing as Pantera.

...well this "reunion" happens with the consent of the Abott bothers estates, so if that´s the issue to you guys, you can scrap that as a reason for not supporting this. Everybody will probably make shitloads of money doing this, but most importantly it will satisfy fans like me, who just can´t get enough of listening to Pantera. I saw Rex with Kill Devil Hill a couple of years back, and they played the most generic sounding set, until they chose to play Mouth for War, and I was ecstatic. Of course it won´t be the same without the Abott brothers, but it´ll be something different and I´m ready to embrace that...

Controversial opinion but Pantera would have been nothing without Phil (see for comparison: Damageplan) and his songwriting contributions to the band were very underrated as well

Rumor is Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante, not sure how I feel about that part though

Wylde at least seems like the obvious choice. He and Dimebag were close.

Based. I like the early albums, but the songwriting shot through the roof on Power Metal. I'm hyped, especially with Charlie fucking Benante on drums. Best drummer in metal.

If they have the blessing of the Abott brothers estate then why not? There's a million tribute bands out there making money from other bands legacies. At least they'll be 2 original members from the classic line up and they've chosen well with Zak and Charlie.

I'm fine with it happening, but they should use a non-Pantera name like "F***ing Hostile" or "Cowboys From Hell". I'd go as far as saying they can put Pantera on the poster somewhere, but not as their moniker. Even with the Abbott family's blessing, still kind of odd, but I don't care too much.
I'd consider going if it comes through Toronto, but only under the right circumstances. There are plenty other artists I'd prioritize seeing over them, especially since I haven't listened to much Pantera in the last decade.
