Made in honor of their upcoming "The Hunter" which can be heard in it's entirety here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffWVlG8rK9k&list=FLjSDmAG2OI0l5I-IdR4khWw&index=1
Free, official release by the band/label I guess. Anyway, my vote goes for Leviathan. I still prefer the original more insane Mastodon to newer, more streamlined and progressive stuff but after a LONG time I've re-listened to CtS and enjoy it more than I used to. |

Crack the Skye, definitely. I think they've gotten better with each release, although I haven't listened to The Hunter yet.

I voted Blood Mountain couse it is the crazyest mos bizzare album of them and my first Mastodon album, and most fantasy related album, and you have to concour the highest mountens before you want to trye your strength against the mighty white whale, or to go into dantes infernos hellfire, and and before you dare to take a astral travel, fighting cysqutaches are the most important thing to do.

As of now, Leviathan and Crack The Skye are close. I'll dissect them one day in a review, but both would probably get a similar (by which I mean high) rating.

I will always love the first 2 the most partially for nostalgia reasons but also, god I heard nothing else like that. Such unfettered chaos.
Blood Mountain is cool as is CtS when I was able to accept the more progressive, spacey style. I'm seriously liking The Hunter, a bit of a throwback with the craziness...but in the streamlined manner of later Mastodon. |

Out of those, Crack The Skye. I never got into their previous stuff but I thought that one was great.
However, I am in the minority that truly thinks The Hunter is their best.

Loved Skye, but Blood Mountain was the first Mastodon album I heard and it blew me away. Gets my vote.
