You may notice that I have left out such greats as Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, and Ritchie Blackmore.
The reason why they are not included in the poll is because it was designed to give lesser-known artists their worthy recognition.  Also missing is the "Other" option.  I will not condemn you notorious "none of the above" critics, but there is no need to show statistics for multiple artists lumped together.  Merely praise the person who was left out.

I like almost all the guitarists off this list.
But if I have to choose one, it's Joe Satriani. Best phrasing in the world IMO and incredibly tasty as a player

Shawn Lane, easily, from this list.
It wouldn't let me pick 5.

I'll forgive you for excluding Chris Poland.

I think you have to cast each vote separately.

It's gotta be John Petrucci, no doubt. Paul Gilbert is VERY underrated, and I almost voted for him, though.

I chose:

1. Malmsteen
2. Vai
3. Vinnie Moore (he had the cleanest picking I've ever seen and a beautifully flawless legato technique)
4. Petrucci
5. Greg Howe (seriously underrated)

Buckethead. He's always mentioned, but vastly underrated. As far as I'm concerned he has the most soul out of any of the other guys on the list.
Lost respect for these archives when I saw Creed added, among other bands. Not going to be foruming here anymore. You can keep my reviews if you want.

Shawn Lane is definitely a cleaner player than Moore, even at faster speeds.
Cleanest player that ever lived really. No one ever really picked at 18 notes per second that cleanly like Lane did

We're gonna do a little number featuring Randy Rhoads...

QFT. I really enjoy his more atmospheric works just as much as his shred albums. A Real Diamond in the Rough is my favorite album by him in fact.

Of the choices above it's gotta be Satch. Can't beat Surfing with the Alien.

1. Shawn Lane
2. Al Di Meola
3. Eric Johnson
4. Guthrie Govan
5. Steve Vai

But above all, I would pick John McLaughlin or even Allan Holdsworth. And I really like Joe Pass too...
