There are some metal guys in the mix as well, but I figure I'd share this in General Music Discussion. One missing from the list is Vinnie Paul's beard. It's one of those beards that really bothers me to look at. I think he's shave many different patterns into it in the past. |

I did find the inclusion of Oates' mustache to be rather controversial as well. Nothing wrong with that one.

Facial hair is the epitome of rock 'n' roll. All hail hairt chins and stached upper lips. All hail the beard.
Also, Kyle Katarn sports a beard - and whatever Katarn does cannot fail! |

I thought there was nothing wrong with any of them except the Oates one A stand alone 'stache doesn't work for me, anything else goes pretty much.

As for Scott Ian's dyed beard, I think Dime pulled it off better.

It worked for Freddy Mercury. He looked weird without one. |

I caught The Damned Things perform at the Copenhell festival earlier this year. His beard was just grey then. |

Oh yes, there are some exceptions. But I guess if I'd seen stacheless pics of Mercury all my life and then suddenly a hairy one, the latter would've looked weird. My dad would look weird without one, but I don't think it'd be necessarily worse. I've talked with people about these things, and I've observed that people with 'stached fathers generally tend to dislike these hair formations. But Dave Grohl is definitely good with moustache (though now that I think of it I'm not sure if it ever restricted itself to just the upper lip, at least he's had the hair circle style going on for a long time), he had quite a horse-like face without it.

I know I couldn't see myself growing a stand alone mustache. Maybe out of curiosity alone, but never as a long term thing.

What about an overgrown biker-stache a la James Hetfield in the late 1980s and early 1990s?
