Just a little announcement here that the Admin team have updated the site review guidelines (it now also includes information on ratings only).
Basically nothing has changed, simply clarified. There is however a new rule regarding unreleased albums. While reviewers may still post reviews prior to an album's release, we have decided, as part of combating down-raters, that we will not be allowing ratings only before the official release date. For site collaborators we stress the importance of including the exact release date(s) when submitting albums to the site. A thread for reporting pre-release ratings will be introduced in the forum abuse section shortly. Members of the admin team will remove them. The new guide can be found in the original thread posted here: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=180&PID=1357 Thanks for reading.

I understand the rule but in order to post a review, don't you have to rate it first? Or does that exception apply to collabs and reviewers only?

You can't post a review without a rating this is true, however the rating you make (above the review form) doesn't actually go into the system until you submit the review. You don't have to rate a release from the artist profile or the top of the individual release page to then post a review for it. In fact doing so actually slows up the review submission process because a rating is technically just a blank review, and is recognised as a review on the system, forcing you to navigate to the edit review form to post your review. Whereas a previously unrated release has the review submission form all ready to go at the bottom of the page.
