This is a place where you can proudly show off your collection, in whatever way you like. List what you have, post some pictures or maybe just frown or nod approvingly at what others post. 

I've maintained a list of mine for years so this is a quick copy/paste job for me. I haven't included digital stuff though, whether free downloads, purchases or promos (but I did include the couple pf physical promos I've obtained).

There's some stuff here that I rarely play now, but only very rarely have I completely disowned something. 

I was lucky to get it before it became so rare. Same with the two albums before it. 

I'll post my list once I sort through all my music 

Purification seemed easier to get than all the others at the time despite being the oldest, but even that's becoming harder to get now.

EDIT: Was out of date and I don't want to bother listing my whole collection at this point.

My collection is a bit too big to do a full photo or video version like some people do on YouTube, but I may add a few more choice albums next time I have my camera out. 

I was watching a UK Tv show the other week called collectaholics and there was a guy on there who has amassed 75,000 Cd's! Crazy thing is he hardly plays them and usually listens to the radio. What a waste!

Yeh, I've resorted to hiding mine as I've also used up my quota of crates as well as wall space, and I'm not supposed to buy any more, by order of the wife. 

 

Do you mean you haven't got a list already compiled? I couldn't keep track of what I have if I didn't keep it reasonably up to date!

Had a bit of a crisis a few weeks back though because my house is suffering from a damp problem and the wall my collection was on got soaked so I had to hastily relocate them all. They're now in stacks in a different part of the house. Takes up less room, but is a bitch to sort a new one into place. Better than them getting ruined though.

I just inventoried my film collection and have over 1000 DVDs and Blue Rays

Music is well over 10,000 CD and perhaps 1000 LPs and cassettes

I have a problem that if i fail to file an album correctly i can't find it in the jungle!

Currently seeking Electric Light Orchestra's Out of the Blue.

My inventory says i own it but it's nowhere to be found.

I own barely a fraction of what you do and it gets difficult without sticking to a system.

982 CDs

872 DVD/Blu-Ray NOT including TV boxsets asides from a few miniseries or music DVDs.

An unknown amount of books. 

My CDs are my best filed being ABC by artist and then in release order for each one. I tried a new system a while back by putting my favourite bands on my lowest shelf (easier to reach) but had to resort them back. Couldn't find anything else when I wanted it!

Movie filing is hard to be happy with, for me. I've tried numerous systems and I think the one I have now is the only one which semi-works, which is  DVD films sorted by genre (or closely related genre), then each section separated by series and then individual titles. Then I have franchises where I have titles on both DVD and blu-ray. After that my special editions; Masters of Ciname DVDs followed by Blu-Ray/Dual format lines, Arrow Video/Academy, BFI, etc and then finally my regular blu-rays, which are just sorted by ABC for the moment since I don't have half as many blu-rays as I do DVDs. 

My books though, they're all over the place. Shelves in my backroom, one small bookcase, the top of my wardrobe, boxes, they're everywhere. I've been trying to sell some but no one's buying.

hard drives fail for many reasons

if a database existed where EVERY album and every film existed i'd be so happy

If they were primarilly a metal band then yes, they'd go under metal. It's the kind of bands your find on PA under RPI that I file under Italian prog.

I'd file them under their predominat style. All my Opeth albums are under metal even though they aren't a metal band anymore. That might have to change a few albums down the line.

I just file EVERYTHING alphabetically with the exception of classical music which is a fucking nightmare. Instead of performers i file under composer so Mozart, Bach, Chopin etc.

Unfortunately i've run out of room so a few letters of the alphabet sit in boxes :(

Back in the day it used to be a pretty regular occurence getting faulty vinyl but since its resurgence they seem to be taking greater care over pressings so haven't had to send one back for a long time.

I've had a few CDs not work when I received them, though it happens more often with DVDs (not so much blu-ray but they're not immune either despite being more scratch resistant). My copy of Cowboys From Hell is buggered up because I dropped my old Sony Walkman with it playing inside. This one though, I think it may have early signs of disc rot. Lots of little pitted marks on the playing surface as well as scratching and it won't even rip to mp3 cleanly. Sometimes it plays from disc and sometimes it doesn't. Not worth the gamble on keeping as it'll probably deteriorate more over time if I'm right about the disc rot. It's heading back to the seller tomorrow. Personally if it were me for the low price paid for it (just £3.40 including P&P) I'd have just refunded if a buyer of mine said this rather than have to pay the return shipping myself, but they're insisting on it coming back so they're probably going to dillydally on the refund to add insult to injury. 

Well, I guess this makes this one my real 1000th album. It arrived the same time, but I opened angL's package first.

I think one other of mine has it because the data on the disc is just gone. Won't even register in a machine any more or in a CD ROM drive. Luckily I always rip my CDs as soon as I get them so I haven't lost the music but the disc itself is basically just an expensive coaster now. 

a bit ironic that the format CD's were supposed to replace and were considered indestructable is likely to outlive them. Vinyl doesn't get disc rot. as long as it's looked after should last indefinitely.

I've had it happen to older CDs. In particular, my copy of Chaos AD, and SYL's City, which I bought when they were first released in the mid-90s. Also Anthrax's Persistence of Time died for no reason I could see, but I bought that several years after it's release. It might have been an old pressing.

I also have a live Slayer bootleg which only plays the first couple of songs, and then seems to have a fungus or something growing across the disc. It looks like a culture in a petri dish. Serves me right for buying a bootleg.

And then there was Wednesday 13's Fang Bang. I couldn't get it out of the CD player after we had a car crash.

 I've bought a few bootlegs, all still okay I think. 

Must admit I have CD's that haven't been played for years - I have over 2000 of the buggers so wouldn't be surprised if there's a few dodgy ones lurking somewhere.
