One of the best and more original bands to mix prog with metal. Which one's your favourite?

I'll start the ball rolling with Crack The Skye as my choice.

Fond of them all. Blood Mountain was the first I bought and still love it. But I went with Crack too.

I like their later material the most, so I´ve voted for the latest album.

Crack the Skye.

On an unrelated note, Mastodon members were extras on last week's Game of Thrones, playing Wildings. Pretty awesome I'd say.

I had a feeling Crack The Skye would walk it.

It's been a while since I listened to them and I haven't spent all that much time with the latest yet, but I'm actually tempted most of all to vote for The Hunter.

The Hunter for me. The other candidate would have been Crack the Skye. But I like the Hunter better.

Crack the Skye was the first album by Mastodon I really liked, I never quite got their appeal up to that point, apart from some shining moments. They were a band that seemed hyped and overrated. Then Crack the Skye changed that. And The Hunter, which amusingly was treated as a decline in quality by most Mastodon fans I know, really did it. I think it's a fantastic album personally and actually more focused on the essential and substantial in the songwriting. All the Heavy Lifting, Spectrelight, Black Tongue, Curl of the Burl are simply perfect.

I think the fact that (at least in the studio) they stepped up their game in the vocals department helped a lot.

I am very aware that I am in the minority regarding my preference among Mastodon fans but there you go!

None of them. I just don't like 'em. I know a couple of guys in the band used to be in Today is the Day, and the first time I heard Mastodon I thought they were Today is the Day-lite, and they never seem to have gotten any better since. Maybe I'm just too old and I'm not their target audience, but I feel like any time spent listening to Mastodon is time I could have spent listening to something good.
