Ok, this might go in the concert reviews section, but it doesn't look like anyone posts there...
So far this year I've been to:
Nightwish w/Sabaton & Delain
Haken w/Next To None , Imminent Sonic Destruction , Tiles
Kamelot w/Dragonforce
Rush
Evergrey w/Voyager , Borealis , Oceans Of Slumber
...and I have tickets to see Symphony X w/Overkill in a couple of weeks
What about you guys?

Cannibal Corpse
Body Count feat Ice-T
Suicidal Tendencies
Slipknot
Exodus
Morgoth
Pretty Maids
At the Gates
Code Orange

Not many:
Sepultura
Meshuggah
AC/DC
Metallica
Korn
Green Day
Soulfly
Marilyn Manson
The Living End
Jakob
Beastwars
There are others I can't remember them all.
Coming up is AC/DC in December (this will be my eldest sons first concert) and I am expecting to go to see Sabbath and Maiden next year.
------------- Be excellent to each other.

^I´m actually contemplating seing Sepultura in October. I saw them in 2014 and I was really impressed with their performance. It was my first time seing them with Derrick, and he was very convincing live. I saw them on the tour for Chaos A.D. too, but that was of course years ago and with Max.

You didn't see Machine Head? That's my only one so far. Going to see Devilskin in a couple of weeks, and Maiden when they come back. Even if they don't come to the South Island, I'm fucking going!

I used to have a live video of the Seps with Derrick on their first tour with him. His voice live is much stronger than Max's.

Yeah I saw Soulfly in 2013 and I think he sounded burned out. Barely can´t move anymore either becase he´s become so fat.

I don't really like Machine Head. I don't see all the fuss is about with Devilskin either.
Max is a complete twat. Derrick is the fucking man.

Yep, I'll be heading to that. Next year will be the year of initiation for my eldest boy. Both Sabbath and Maiden.

Took mine to AC/DC at about that age too. Then took him to Metallica in Wellington when he was about 14. He reckoned they were a shitload better then than the most recent tour.

Gah!
Riverside is playing here the same night as that Symphony X/Overkill show.
Why oh why do my favorite bands do this to me? I'd love to see Riverside, I've never seen them before, but I've already purchased the Symphony X tickets.

Haven't seen a metal show this year yet. Saw Fairport Convention though and seeing King Crimson on Saturday. Least gigs ever in a year.

Me too. It´s one of the few old thrash metal bands I haven´t seen yet.

Overkill was absolutely killer. They put on a great show, it was worth the admission just to see them. And I'm not even a fan…yeah, back in the day I saw a few of their videos on Headbangers Ball. Hello From The Gutter, a couple of others. I've always thought they were ok, but just never followed them.
Met Bobby Blitz walking around before the show, too. The venue in Grand Rapids is in an area that is rapidly becoming yuppie, there was an art festival party going on across the street, all kinds of small shops in the area and loft apartments, young professionals out jogging, bicycle riding, etc. Anyways he just said hi, enjoy the show. Didn't really want to bother him.
Symphony X played great as usual, but their sound was muddy. The venue isn't the greatest for sound quality, though the place is nice on the inside and the stage is nice and tall so there is a good view.
A local Grand Rapids, MI band opened and were surprisingly very good, in the Iced Earth/Dragonforce vein. Blackgate is their name, check them out. I think they are on bandcamp

I've only been to one gig this year. Went to see Fozzy with the Dirty Youth. Second time seeing Fozzy, they're such a fun, energetic live band.

Last night. I'm up the front somewhere... 43 and still proud to be in the middle of the mosh pit! I've been in mosh pits longer than many of the other participants have been alive.
Devilskin were bloody brilliant. (slight disclaimer: Devilskin ain't exactly the heaviest band you'll ever hear, and it's pretty commercial, but fuck it, I like it.) Heavier than I expected. Jennie Skulander has an amazing voice. Nail and the Axe Man were a pleasure to watch- a pair of grizzled old metalheads enjoying some well deserved success after plugging away in bands and living for metal for 20-25 years. Nic Martin (the Axe Man's son) played a good drum solo mid set (good because it wasn't too long!). They played some new material, which went down pretty well, and there's a new album coming.
The crowd was a bit strange. Because of Devilskin's wide appeal, there were people there who didn't know the correct mosh pit etiquette, and were just pushing and elbowing for the hell of it. Before the band started, a girl from the West Coast came up to me and my stepson and asked what a mosh pit was (the West Coast is very sparsely populated. There's probably never been enough people in one place there to start a pit). My advice was to go and stand in front of the stage and she'd soon find out. Well, she did. And she went down like a sack of spuds.
Met an old workmate I hadn't seen for a while. Towards the end of the show, he sort of fell through the mosh pit from the front row with blood pissing out of his head and grabbing another guy by the scruff of the neck, looking like he was going to fucking kill him. Security dragged them and about three other guys out all at once. Also saw another annoying little prick get punched right in the face. Haven't seen fights in a pit for a very long time.
Opening band Stonehurst played some very decent stoner metal. I know it was decent because I wasn't stoned and it wasn't boring. Example:
Second band Villainy were utter fucking shit. I don't ever want to hear them again. Crappy arsed pop rock slop aimed straight at the undiscerning radio market. The vocalist was shrill little prick, and looked like a right poser. One of the guitarists looked like a bit of a stoner though. He needs to find a new band.
(This sounds a shitload better than they did live. Not a good indicator at all.)

^Sounds like a fun concert apart from the second band. I assume this is what they sounded like?

Yep. And it's also the first time in over 25 years of seeing bands live that a singer has ever had to tell people to jump up and down. They definitely had their own audience there, and they were a bit thick..

That´s what you get when mainstream audiences start going to metal concerts . It used to be good friendly violent fun, but nowadays you gotta Watch out for angry people who don´t understand mosh culture...

I just got back from seeing Blind Guardian w/special guest Grave Digger
Wow, what a show!
Grave Digger played 10 songs, a killer set of classic metal
Blind Guardian's set was:
The Ninth Wave
Banish From Sanctuary
Nightfall
Fly
Tanelorn (Into The Void)
Prophecies
The Last Candle
Lord Of The Rings
Majesty
Time Stands Still (At The Iron Hill)
And The Story Ends
Sacred Worlds
Twilight Of The Gods
Valhalla
Bright Eyes
The Bard's Song (Into The Forest)
Mirror Mirror
Fantastic set, and concert. Tons of speedy songs, and the mosh pit was going full bore.
No, I don't mosh. I'm 51, I'm too old for that stuff I guess Blind Guardian has been mixing it up all tour so far, they play different songs every night. I heard that they haven't been doing Majesty (except tonight) and sometimes they've been closing with And Then There Was Silence, among other closing songs.

^ Not much of a Blind Guardian fan but I'd like to have seen Grave Digger.
Saw Glenn Hughes a couple of weeks back doing a mixture of solo, Deep Purple, Trapeze and Black Country Communion. It was good at times but too much aimless noodling, particularly from Doug Aldrich whose solo bored me to tears and went nowhere. Hughes's vocals are still incredible though.

Blind Guardian are my favourite band. The last two times they have played the UK though I have been unable to attend (they only ever seem to do the one date per tour too). Grave Digger are a big favourite as well. I would have loved to have gone to that show.
