Here's the next edition in my 'Top 5' series. This week I'm looking at vocalists! How does my list compare to yours? Who's your top five?

(Admins; is it okay to continue making a new thread for each blog post? I feel if I post them all in one thread, they'll eventually get lost in the shuffle, however, this way, the whole blog board will soon fill up with my posts. Either way, it sparks conversation, so can't be bad, right?)

And while we're here, please like my Facebook page! Every like is hugely appreciated, and I'm happy to like any pages anyone else has, just link me up! Smile

Some great singers there - really like Ted Leonard but Russell Allen is the only one who would make my top 5. I think he's the best singer in metal today. My top 5 would include some of these (not all metal) - Robert Plant, Glenn Hughes, Jeff Buckley, Jon Anderson, Paul Rodgers, Anneke Van Giersbergen, Chris Cornell, David Coverdale, Geddy Lee (70's stuff) and Jennie-Ann Smith is a great upcoming singer with Avatarium.

Edit - how could i forget the late great Ronnie James Dio.

Nice list, here's some of of my favorite singers. For both vocals and songwriting, no order, 5 for metal and 5 for outside of metal:

Metal (Rob Halford would be here too, but that's obvious):
1. Neil Fallon (Clutch)
2. Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down, etc)
3. Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity)
4. Chris Cornell (Soundgarden)
5. Stephen Pearcy (Ratt)

Outside of metal:
1. Karl Hyde (Underworld)
2. Derek Shulman (Gentle Giant)
3. Siouxsie Sioux (Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Creatures)
4. Gift of Gab (Blackalicious, The Mighty Underdogs)
5. Beastie Boys

Just sticking with metal singers:

Ronnie James Dio
Geoff Tate (before he lost his range)
Roy Khan
Matt Barlow
Russell Allen

Hard to leave out guys like Halford, Dickinson, Lande, Zack Stevens, and others, but I had to pare it down to 5...

Nice to see Ted Leonard mentioned, he did a great job in all the bands he sang and played (I haven't heard his solo stuff, but his work with Enchant, Thought Chamber, Affector and Spock's Beard is great).

5 vocalists? I'll try.

Rock:
Freddie Mercury
Glenn Hughes
Robert Plant
Peter Gabriel
David Coverdale

edit - David Byron is amazing (I use present tense because his legacy lives on), how could I forget him?!

Metal
Chuck Billy
Andrew McDermott (Threshold)
Warell Dane
Tom Englund (Evergrey)
Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus)

there are plenty more I like, I'll definitely list some more some other time Big smile
