Anubis Gate - The Detached. Alice in Chains, Epica, Darkology, Mastodon, Nile and Dream Theater all get very honourable mentions as well. I can't decide between: Amorphis - Skyforger & Redemption - Snowfall On Judgement Day my two favorite albums from that year  from the list it's probably the Epica

Mastodon closely followed by Nile. Good albums from Megadeth, Alice In Chains, Porcupine Tree and Slayer. Not heard that Anubis gate album but they're a band I've really been enjoying the last year but apart from their last 2 albums, they're hard to find at a sensible price. Also great albums not on the list that year year from Unanimated, Unleashed, Heaven & Hell and Vader.
