Genre battle #2.

Two genres that evolved out of speed metal. Which do you like more?

I think I know what the majority is going to be here already, but perhaps you'll surprise me.

I wouldn't say they evolved from speed metal, what speed metal was there before 1982-1983?
Don't tell me Motorhead was speed metal because I'll giggle. Big smile

Tough choice this time, I like them both.
I listen to a few Euro-Power metal bands, US Power is much better.

I like thrash metal quite a bit, although I've yet to discover and enjoy something new in this genre, the new wave of thrash, it's great there is one, doesn't do much for me.

I like artists from both camps, and some of my favorite artists combine the two genres, but I´ve voted thrash.

To no one's shock I've voted for power metal. I like thrash more than I did at one point though.

Thrash. I like the hardcore influence on it, especially when you get to bands like The Accused and Cryptic Slaughter. And all the old classics, and the hidden gems, and even some of the more second-rate pretenders. Less impressed with modern thrash bands who all try to sound like D.R.I. I suppose Municipal Waste is to blame for that.Big smile

I like a bit of power metal, but it gets a bit too restrictive for me. I like DragonForce because they play at an insanely silly speed, but the lighter end of power metal bores me a bit. I just can't get into the likes of Symphony X or Rhapsody of Fire.

I like Thrash but unlike Power Metal I very rarely find anything new there that grabs me. There's plenty of bands that sound Thrash-y at times but for the most part I feel like its a genre where if you're not new to it then you've heard it before. Power Metal certainly has more then its fair share of generic bands but I think it also has a lot more bands with a more unique or different take on the genre when compared to Thrash.

In case it wasnt clear enough, my vote goes to Power Metal Wink

I love me some power metal, especially US power metal but for me...

...It's thrash till death!

I don't think I need to say much about my opinion here, it's that obvious. I do enjoy thrash quite a bit, but power metal is my favorite genre of all, so of course that's what I voted.

Thrash win easily for me though US power metal bands like Vicious Rumors i enjoy equally. European style PM I'm much more selective.

Thrash is my favorite genre so I voted for that but power metal is my second favorite (or power/thrash or any speed/thrash or speed/power).

Once again i'm indifferent. I'm not so much into subgenres per se as i am bands that make interesting music no matter what kinds of sounds they use. Both thrash and power metal are excellent sounding subs

I usually have thrash phases but power metal (either US or Euro) I can listen to anytime, so power metal.

Question

If there is a point to this comment I'm missing it.

I think he's making a joke about how happy/uplifting some of Euro Power Metal is and how violent and aggressive a lot of thrash is. That's what I got from it.

Maybe.

I've heard some pretty tame thrash though (Metallica anyone?) and some damn aggressive (Euro) power (usually German).

Well I wouldn't exactly call Metallica tame on their first four albums, but yeah each genre is varied in how it sounds. I was just guessing the meaning behind that statement, for a real answer you'd have to ask him. Tongue

Well I guess they weren't back then but I think by modern standards for thrash they are. Hetfield can actually sing for one.

Thrash!!!

I'd say I like both evenly but I voted for power metal since it looks like the underdog here.
