What are some of your favorite non-rock/metal instruments done in a rock/metal context?

For me, I absolutely ADORE the saxophone! One good example of this is Striker's 'Give it All':
Some other instruments I like in this way are the violin and flute. There may be others but I can't think of them atm.

I'm fond of all manner of folk instruments used in folk metal bands but otherwise I'd second the saxophone.

Arjen Lucassen's Ayreon had a Didgeridoo on this track as well: Big smile

The clear and obvious answer is the saxophone. Of course, I am surprising no one by saying that but I already really like the saxophone and so it is perhaps not surprising that I should think that Metal could use more of it.

This song is always the first to come to my mind when I think of saxophone in Metal.

I wouldnt call it a favorite but I am a bit surprised that the violin isnt more common in Metal, given its versatility especially. Though the same could be said for the cello and maybe even the contrabass.

Apart from the saxophone I am also quite partial to various east-asian folk instruments as well, such as the erhu, guqin, etc.
