To me, Neurosis aren't only the first post metal band, they're the best of the genre. I can definitely see Times of Grace influence in bands like Isis and Cult of Luna. But my personal favorite is their darker sounding predecessor Through Silver in Blood.

Through Silver in Blood is fantastic!!! I love that album and of course it gets my vote. Times of Grace is a close second. Souls at Zero is also quite a special release IMO.

Absolutely Neurosis & Jarboe for me. Runners-Up Times of Grace, Souls at Zero and A Sun That Never Sets.

Wonder if anyone at all will vote for the first two...

I actually like The Word As Law, but it's really not as good as their later stuff.

Yeah "The Word as Law" isnt bad at all. Just not on par with some of their later stuff. Interesting that you like the Jarboe collaboration album Colin. I wasnt able to appreciate that one as much as I had hoped for. Its of course still a good release though.

Well part of that is that Swans are one of my favourite bands ever. But really, I just love the whole ambiance of it.

mmmm I do really like that album.
I'm not surprised to see TSiB, ToG and early stuff get some love. I think I'll end up being the odd one out who likes their later stuff better!
My vote is for "The Eye of Every Storm"

I usually prefer aggression over atmosphere and thats probably why I like the 90s stuff more than the later albums.

All depends of course but I am definitely more inclined to choose the latter, (to the surprise of no one )
I do like TSiB, it has a 3.5 from me. It's just, kinda dull. I respect it's major influence and innovative style for sure, but I just find their early stuff a lil dull really.
I prefer their more streamlined and atmospheric stuff. I know, such a wuss Also, while their last 2 are pretty standard post metal they invented the genre so I can't give em flak for that.

Honestly, I think that the collaboration with Jarboe was mediocre. The woman's voice got really annoying.

Times of Grace, naturally.
