I want to know what your lowest rated album on this site is.
Mine so far is Death Magnetic (1.5*), which I found unlistenable on so many levels. The worst thing is Kirk Hammett's e-minor pentatonic wah-wah w**king solos; I don't think the dude even knows what he is doing.

I generally dont give out many low ratings. Most of my low ratings are for lo-fi demo releases. Here are a couple of studio releases that Ive rated really low though.

I love Death Magnetic <3 What's not to love for a thrash head? It's thrashy, nothing but riffs and is actually one of the better composed albums Metallica has written (and we know how their songwriting has gotten flak from me!) Also I though all his solos were the same?? Kirk is not the most gifted of guitarists
Anywho: My lowest ratings are these 1 star albums: ReLoad by Metallica Nattens Madrigal by Ulver God Hate Us All by Slayer Risk by Megadeth Omnimalevolence by Unholy Trinity
Though it's that last one which is the worst. All the others gave me some enjoyment, while that one probably should be dropped to .5 It was a completely random purchase that turned out to be a shitty black metal album (even for black metal) So that's my worst album really.
I need to listen more, but MA's most recent could get a .5 but even that would be more enjoyable

Even for Slayer standards those lyrics are atrocious! Musically, IMHO, its a combo of stale/bad choices/overall not good and the quality makes me cry.
Those are about it, I try my best to avoid that 1 star range and long as there is something good there I'll throw it some pity

Hey now, a couple of the tracks from it have even become live staples for Slayer. That may be stupidity on their part, but who am I to judge that?
Posted By: The Angry Scotsman
Date Posted: 08 Jul 2011 at 3:39pm
Hey this is all our personal beliefs right? I think its horrendous but Slayer can do as they please! And I can see why many fans would enjoy it.
And seriously, Morbid Angel's latest is down there. I'm not even really a fan so I'm not biased. It's pretty poor death metal and industrial, with nu metal influence?? The vocals are pretty bad, production is weird, I hate the drums. It's close to having nothing redeemable at all.

I, luckily haven't listened to that yet. Oh, and I'd like to clear up that I don't think Death Magnetic is the worst metal album I've heard. It is just the worst I've bothered to rate here :P

I'll stick to ones I've reviewed for this, rather than just ratings, since I have to be honest, much more thought goes into a review than using the quick rating thing.
At the moment, these four are my lowest rated reviews, all at 1 Star.

My lowest ratings so far (1-1,5) are:
Carcass: "Reek of Putrefaction" Opus Atlantica: "Opus Atlantica" Battlelore: "Doombound" Compression: "Compression" Running Wild: "Rogues en Vogue"
Iron Maiden: "Virtual XI" ../reek-of-putrefaction--edit-review.aspx?id=214034" rel="nofollow - -
Debauchery: "Germany's Next Death Metal" Carpe Tenebrum: "Twisted Chaotic Reign"
The sad thing is that the list comprises at least three of my favorite bands.

My original Roots rating was slightly higher, around 1.5 or even 2 stars, because I actually reviewed that years ago, the review I have on here is just updated. I lose more and more interest in the album all the time. Maybe it will end up a 0.5 eventually.
Time Signature wrote:

The sad thing is even our favourite bands can have a dud album. My case in point would be the Elvenking one, and to a lesser degree the Sepultura.
No truer words were ever spoken. My lowest rating is Dream Theater's greatest hits album, it's a real shame the ever released it, my favorite band released my worst rated album.

My lowest rating on the site is one I accidentally rated, "Twilight Dementia" by Dragonforce, which I haven't heard. So I can't really talk crap about it.
However, my lowest rated albums are Black Clouds & Silver Linings by Dream Theater and Blooddrunk by Children of Bodom. They are both atrociously boring albums for me. I have fallen asleep plenty of times trying to listen to Black Clouds. As for Bodom, one of my friends was really into them and I checked them out by borrowing their latest CD from him. Now I know that they have some fairly good stuff in their early years, but Blooddrunk has absolutely the most standard generic riffs amongst a myriad of stupid synth effects.
I haven't purposefully given a .5 rating to something before. I guess I haven't come across something I find completely unlistenable yet.

I haven't given too many poor ratings (2 or lower). Thus far I gave DT's Systematic Chaos and Megadeth Youthanasia 2 stars, and The Black Album 1.5. There are songs from those I like, but on a whole I'm disappointed with them and very rarely do I want to listen to them. I'd reserve 0.5 or 1 if I couldn't stomach an album at all.

Well, I hate St. Anger not only by your horrible music, but I remember before their release the expectation was high. Everyone expected a honest album, not a commercial attempt to sound "modern" (yes, nu metal). And the lack of solos, the rap vocals... that disgusting drum sound...

Yes, I absolutely believe no solos in Metallica is a bonus
Even as far back as Kill 'Em All, if you compare Hammett's solos to what Mustaine used to play, he just took the first 4 bars of Mustaine's solos and then went somewhere much simpler/easier to play/more boring after. He's really nowhere near as good as the credit he gets (among 12 year olds on youtube )

I agree with that. He's definitely not a highly advanced guitarist in most regards, but his solos are for the most part on RTL, MOP, and AJFA, very memorable. I'd personally rather have that over successive sweeps that sound like a video game or what sounds like someone practicing to a high BPM metronome.

Exactly, but then OMG where are they?
That was Lars' doing (of course) plus the producer. They decided to take the 90 to mid 2000's general opinion that solos are lame and old school...
And even though I like St Anger the lyrics are some of the worst shit ever, and when you get me to care you know they're bad!

Yeah but thats a tuff one Pekka. You only review the product and not the actual music on the product if you rate that way. I hate rating compilation stuff. I like to write reviews of compilations but that rating part of it sucks. The same with demos and singles. I think its extremely hard to rate such releases.

That's very true. That's why in cases like that I try to make it very clear in the actual review, that the rating is based on the product and not the music, which in this case is really really good. http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/greatest-hits%28compilation%29--review.aspx?id=215150" rel="nofollow - http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/greatest-hits(compilation)--review.aspx?id=215150 Here's the review, it might need a bit of rephrasing, but I'm still quite happy with it.

Van Canto was somewhat entertaining in the past, but it's got old hat now. If you've never heard them listen to their Metallica Battery cover. Their covers are usually entertaining, but their own stuff leaves something to be desired IMO.
