I'm new here...but I cannot find a Gothic Metal appreciation thread...so I think I have to start one since I love a lot of Gothic metal, especially Theatre of Tragedy and The Sins of Thy Beloved...
Some vids:
The Sins of Thy Beloved-My Love

The Sins of Thy Beloved- Until The Dark

Theatre of Tragedy - Siren

What are your favourite Gothic Metal songs/albums?

It's not a genre I've explored very much nor have too much interest in. I enjoy Lacuna Coil's earlier material before they turned towards alt metal though, but my favourite so called gothic metal act would have to be Coronatus.

Not a genre I'm an expert in, although Cradle of Filth is a favorite of mine. Smile

Im not an expert in the genre either, but Ive listened sporadically to an artist like Moonspell which seems to be hailed as one of the big male fronted Goth metal acts.

Ive listened to quite a few goth rock acts though, like The Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim, Bauhaus and The Mission. My older cousin who was young in the eighties has introduced me to all the artists he listened to when he was in his teens. The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Morrissey and as mentioned also som goth rock acts. I know he went to see The Sisters of Mercy a couple of years back when they had a sort of re-union tour, but the concert sucked major ass according to him.

I still get green with envy when he talks about seing Depeche Mode on the "Black Celebration" tourAngry.

...oh well sorry I got carried away Back to topic

^^ Re: The Sisters of Mercy, ever since the band quit on him after First and Last and Always the Sisters has essentially been Andrew Eldritch and whoever he can convince to play with him. For the last couple of decades he's been thoroughly dedicated to resting on his laurels and spitting contempt at his fans so I'm not surprised the gig sucked.

Either way, I'd be interested in exploring more gothic metal, because I really like gothic rock but haven't heard that much metal which really captures the spirit of that sort of thing. Love most of the bands you mention though. I guess we should hope for GothMusicArchives at some point in the future. ;)

Oh I suddenly remember I listened to an album by Babylon Whores a while ago and that was some pretty kickass goth metal: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/babylon-whores.aspx?ac=babylon" rel="nofollow - http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/babylon-whores.aspx?ac=babylon w
I just added a couple of youtube clips to their profile if anything should be interested.

Thanks for all the responses! But what i love about Gothic Metal has not been adressed that much...the female vocals...I love that...Bands like Sirenia, Tristania, Leaves' Eyes, After Forever, 3rd And The Mortal etc...
Here's a vid of Tristania...

Edit: This one won't play...same as the other Tristania tracks (I tried a fiew...)...well open this one in youtube...

Paradise Lost
Flowing Tears - Jade - the only album I like from this band
Theatre of Tragedy - Aegis - excellent album, the only album of theirs I like
Tiamat - Wildhoney (their last album was surprisingly good)
Dreadful Shadows - underrated
Evereve - their first two albums are superb
Darkseed
For My Pain
The Gathering - Always (and their albums before How to Measure...)
Crematory
Lake of Tears

Despite its shitty album cover, Tiamat's Amanethes is actually really good.

I definitely need to check out their 2012 album as soon as I can.

I haven't tampered with a whole lot of Goth.. but Type O is one of my favorite bands. Could anyone recommend me some Type O Negative sounding goth metal? Thanks
