What's your favourite era? Is it the good old days of Thrash and Trad. from the 80s? The rise of Death/Black/Extreme Metal in the 90s? The modern bands of the new millennium? Which had (or has) the best music in your eyes?
...or should i say ears?

I want to say 90-95, but that's without giving it much thought. If I gave it more thought, I'd never come to a decision.

Not sure... I'm still fascinated by the 70's hard-rock/heavy-metal (by the way, I think it would be better to split the 70's and the 80's), but the 90's opened new doors...

Well, there weren't very many Metal bands in the 70s, the only ones I can think of are Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motorhead and maybe Rainbow if they count. Since they would probably count as "classic" era stuff, I just decided to lump them in with the 80s.

I'd actually say right now is a golden age, as there's just so many new metal bands popping up everywhere with digital music and the internet to help them. Sure, there's plenty of fluff, but there are so many great bands popping up all the time that I have a number of favorite bands that are less than 10 years old.

Going with the 90's since the majority of my most favorite albums got released in that time.

00's-present. There is no doubt a lot of amazing music I've missed out on from both the 80's and the 90's, which is something I'd like to rectify but right now for me it's kinda 00's by default.

Oh, good grief, if we're going to make another round of this "hard-rock-is-not-heavy-metal-is-not-hard-rock" thing, I leave for a Jazz forum!
Ah, I nearly forget: Blue yster Cult, hard rock or heavy metal?

Guess this depends on what age you are and since I'm old and nostalgic I have voted 70-80s. However I do love what's current as there are a lot of great newer bands around.

90s.Picking one year, it would be 1996. The year where experimentation and pushing the boundaries paid off in spades, merging influences, genres, styles...it was a good year for metal. Pity I wasn't old enough to realise it at the time.

'96 was a great year. Besides The Dwelling a lot of other personal favorites were released that year by bands like Neurosis, Blut aus Nord, Lunar Aurora, Limbonic Art, Sear Bliss, Samael, and Cryptopsy.

Its the 90s for me. Its when I was in my teens, which is usually where your listening habits are formed. At least those with sentimental value. The early- to mid nineties death metal scene will always stand as something special to me.

If the second half of the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s were part of the same decade, that'd be it.

The best era in Metal music was since early-mid of '80s and finished at the mid of '90s....

There's some incredible stuff from all decades, but in the 2000's people started really pushing boundaries in metal, so that gets my vote.
