Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence.  Great album.

Probably Systematic Chaos would be my least favorite of these albums.

Six Degrees is masterly. I actually preferred it to Images and Words at one point. Now it's my second favorite of theirs.

Six Degrees. The rest all have their moments and i have enjoyed them all to a certain extent at the time of release but I don't seem to return to them often once the dust has settled.

Octavarium. Criminally underrated AND one of my all-time favorite albums! Clap Here's how I would order them:

1. 8VM
2. BC&SL
3. 6DOIT
4. SC
5. ToT

I've voted for Octavarium; post 2000 DT is my least favourite period of theirs, not that it's bad, but i guess I'm rather stuck in the Moore era. I chose Octavarium just because I seem to listen to it the most (of the albums in the list).

Train Of Thought. They're all quite good but I find I'm getting increasingly bored with each release after the masterful Scenes from a Memory.

This, BUT octavarium is a better album, imo.

^ I can understand.

Better album generally are not always the album we listen most (for different reason).

I understand that OCTAVARIUM defines more the overall sound of DT, while on the other hands, ToT fits well in the discography (as a new evolution of their sound) .

"Systematic Chaos" because there's some heavy stuff on it.

Hah! Leveled it out between Six Degrees and Octavarium.
I voted for Octavarium Big smile

I voted for the Train of Thought, although Six Degress and Octavarium are pretty close. Actually, the only 00s DT album i don't like is Black Clouds, while Systematic Chaos is good, but not as much as others.

Black Clouds was a nice surprise for me but I have to admit that Its only Images and Awake that really makes my blood boil these days.

I'm suprised at the low ratings that Systematic Chaos got compared to how many ratings Black Clouds got. Though I think that all of the albums up there are at least 3.5 stars.

If I vote in this poll the universe will cave in on itself.

I love Dream Theater with a passion, and have reviewed and rated all their studio albums five stars. To make me pick one is blasphemy!

Train of Thought by far

In fact it's the only one of those I enjoy anymore, although I was a big DT fan up until I saw them live on PN '09

So was that gig so bad that you weren't a fan anymore, or did it just happen to happen around that time?

I was already past my biggest fan days (somewhere between Six Degrees and ToT) when I saw them on the Systematic Chaos tour and loathed it. I chose not to go see them after Black Clouds even though the album was way better than the two before it. The Octavarium gig was quite nice.

partly the gig was awful (they got showed up by Bigelf, of all bands!), partly that was around the time of Black Clouds which I did not like at all.  Then everything seemed to go downhill from there

Train of Thought, since it's my favorite DT album LOL

Next would be Octavarium.

Was not a big fan of Systematic Chaos and I didn't like BC&SL much at all.

It saddens me that Systematic Chaos, an altogether more creative album IMO, has fewer votes than BC&SL. What a trainwreck of an album.

For me it's Six Degrees without a question.  And I agree, I thought BC&SL was a really poor album.

Black Clouds & Silver Linings. Looks like I might be in a minority here, but I consider that album in DT's top 3.

My top 3 isn't that original:

1. Awake
2. I & W
3. Scenes From A Memory (or possibly Six Degrees)

I thought Black Clouds was honestly one of the least inspired albums I've ever heard. Though my top 3 isn't terribly creative, I don't particularly care for Metropolis.

1. Images & Words
2. Six Degrees
3. Falling into Infinity

Train Of Thought for me too, followed by Six Degrees.

I seem to be in a minority here in actually liking Systematic Chaos as an album.

I enjoy them all to a degree, but none of them 100%. I´ve voted Train of Thought, because that´s one of the Dream Theater albums which stand out in their discography.

Well...we´re old fans of DT, so we´re supposed to not understand that LOL. I´m a pretty big fan of the Moore albums too, but not so much the albums where he doesn´t play.
