I've closed the last poll as it doesn't seem right to exclude 75% of their full-lengths from the poll. The old topic is here: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=219&PN=1&title=dream-theaters-best" rel="nofollow - http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=219&PN=1&title=dream-theaters-best
My ranking:
- Metropolis, Part 2: Scenes From a Memory
- A Dramatic Turn of Events
- Images and Words
- Black Clouds & Silver Linings
- Octavarium
- Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
- Train of Thought
- Dream Theater
- Systematic Chaos
- Awake
- When Dream and Day Unite
- Falling Into Infinity
Yes I really did just put Awake that low.

I don't know why but it's never really grabbed me the way other albums by them have. There are a few songs I love from it but most of it I don't find all that memorable. I know I am in the minority opinion on this...

I´ve heard all their releases, but it´s only the early releases that I still put on so it´s a bit of a tie between Images and Awake. Images gets my vote. I´m still in awe when listening to that album all these years later.

This is really hard, because they're one of my top 5 favorite bands, at the very least.
1. Metropolis, Part 2: Scenes From a Memory 2. Awake 3. Dream Theater 4. A Dramatic Turn of Events 5. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence 6. Black Clouds & Silver Linings 7. Images & Words 8. Octavarium 9. Train of Thought 10. When Dream and Day Unite 11. Systematic Chaos 12. Falling Into Infinity
(There's a huge gap between 12 and 11, followed by another big gap between 11 and 10. From 10 on, are all albums I'd rate at least 85/100.)

For me it's Train of Thought. I really love music from most of their albums, but they also have always included songs that I rather dislike. Train of Thought is the one that suffers the least from that.

I have heard alot of Dream Theater, but I find myself picking an album that isn't even that good: Octovarium. I dunno, I've always liked the album, especially the tracks 'Panic Attack' and 'Never Enough'.
I don't even like DT that much, but this album is pretty good imo.

1. Awake 2. Images and Words 3. Change of Seasons --------------------------- ze godly Here is where the two LTE albums would be as well 4. Scenes from a Memory 5. Six Degrees 6. When Dream and Day Unite 7. Falling into Infinity --------------------------- ze brilliant with some flaws and the flawed with moments of brilliance (for the record, #4's flaw is how safe it is) the rest are just random songs - which I don't listen to that often anyway.

My favorite album for all the time is Metropolis Part 2 - Scenes From A Memory!
The Metropolis is a very intense album, very well composed and his story is incredible. No way, it's exciting! GENIUS!
But I like the Train of Thought (powerfull!¹), Images & Words (powerfull!²) and Falling Into Infinity (very beautiful).

Okay, maybe, but I read about the measures and the form of SFAM composition, thought fantastic. The sound of this album is not something you can change every day. Regarding the other two may have overestimated, but I like this old school. The new ones are good too, I like the band as a whole, but more of that I quoted. Good thing is just my humble opinion and that all the wonders there. ;)

For me it's Awake, that's the one I keep coming back too most.
1. Awake 2. Scenes 3. Images and Words 4. Train of Thought 5. When Dream and Day Unite 6. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Can't say I really care for the rest at all these days. And to think they used to be my favourite band.

Dream Theater is getting absolutely crushed by Caravan in the battle of the bands poll over on PA. I'm not having any luck with stirring up their avid fan boy supporters. I guess I am the last of 'em to still be on PA.

Caravan are a good band but nothing special. DT are a special band. They are a main reason for half of the bands on PA. And most of the bands started after 1990. Canterbury is just a tiny little niche.

Oh yeah, no problems. ;)
I just wanted to know even his reason.
As to what you were saying, it may be that, on the one hand, Dream Theater is an overrated band. But are versatile, in my view. I like Yes, King Crimson, Caravan, but are different bands with each other, each with its single biggest quality. And that is lovely in prog rock.

never saw that poll I'm not surprised considering that progressive metal is one of the least popular subgenres on PA; people complain about LaBrie, some even make fun of him. He may not be a great vocalist but still...
