Let’s get a few things straight from the off, Geoff Tate is one of the finest songs to come out of the Eighties and Queensrÿche’s ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ from 1988 is probably one of the best metal albums from that decade to boot. Now, the last album I heard from the band was 2003’s ‘Tribe’ and to say that I was underwhelmed was something of an understatement. So it was with some trepidation that I put this on the player – would it be a class performance from the singer who put the balls into Hear ‘n’ Aid’s “Stars” or would it be something else altogether? Yep, you guessed it, it’s the latter.
It was only because I feel that if I am sent something to review I must listen to it all the way through and not cast it away after a few songs that I made it to the end, and “Waiting” is probably one of the better songs, but “Take A Bullet” is dire. There are little or no redeeming features to this album with the vocals workmanlike for the most part and the songs poor to say the least. If this had been released by someone not known within the scene then I can’t believe that they would have been signed, and even if they had been no-one would have found out about it as it wouldn’t have been written about.
