My Reflection is a female-fronted metal band who were founded in Sipoo, Finland in 2007. After an EP and independent album they have now released their debut for Inverse Records, and it is a polished result that is certainly going to find a lot of friends. They perform American-style melodic metal, mixing elements from metalcore and rock with industrial-style keyboard sounds and even moving into symphonic at times. The most recognizable element in My Reflection’s music is the strong vocals provided by singer Jenni Räikkönen who is gaining comparisons with Amy Lee for obvious reasons.
But this is much more than just about the vocals, these guys are willing to take the back seat when the time is right but are also ready to power through and provide gruff vocals and plenty of attack and aggression to move them away from the norm. Even when they are belting it out there is a sense of control so that the music doesn’t get too over the top: there is an air of finesse even in the loudest areas. Always melodic, but also with plenty of aggression, this is a real find. www.inverse.fi
