Young Gods for Industiral Metal

Hi guys,

I believe the Young Gods to be one of the first industrial metal bands next to Ministry.
Guess you know them already but here's some videos anyway.

I had one album once that was really interesting. I really liked that one but lost it somehow.

Ok, please stay with me for this short overview.

The Young Gods' first album was from 1987.
In short, they sped up the stark industrial aggression of early Swans (even coining their name after a Swans song) and added a more metallic edge to the sound, sometimes by using guitar samples, sometimes without.

Here's two songs from the debut. This was still one year before Ministry would show the first mild signs of metal on "The Land of Rape and Honey".
I don't know any earlier industrial that was so overtly metal. Cool video for 1987 as well.



Second album "L'Eau Rouge" from 1989 saw them adding a more playful cabaret/musical element to their sound. I've added "Charlotte" as an example (not metal obviously but an essential "Tom Waits" side of them)
There was plenty of industrial metal as well such as "Longue Route"



In 1991 they released an album with Kurt Weill songs, recorded around the "Eau Rouge " time and in the same style. I've added a video in an earlier post already.
More interesting is their 1992 release "TV Sky" which was sung in English and broke them to a wider audience.
It's their best album but a very eclectic one, having their known industiral metal (samples below) but also plain rock (the well-known "Skinflowers") and even flat out Prog in the 20 minute "Summer Eyes" where they played around with samples from "Riders on the Storm" and "Echoes".


Fifth album followed in 1995, when industrial metal had started taking the "charts". But instead these stuborn Swiss guys were loosing interest in the whole thing and developed a more "techno-prog" oriented sound. (really I need to suggest them on PA )
It's one of my favorites of theirs but only two songs might be tagged metal, and much mellower then their old stuff.
I think "Kissing the Sun is quite well-known but I've added it anyway.





The Young Gods went completely techno/ambient on the next few albums with only the 2007 "Super Ready" (they missed an "s" there) returning to their older metalic sound.

I think they deserve to be here for their pioneering work and IMO would tag the first four/five albums as industrial metal.
