I'm going with Tool since I know and love them. I know of NIN but besides from a few songs, I haven't really digged deep into their discography.

I can't really compare them. Both are great, though I do need more NIN in my collection and I already have all Tool's studio albums.

Tool, i never really cared for Nine Inch Nails or industrial music in general, although to be fair i've only heard a few nin albums.

both are pivotal bands in the metal world, and deserves respect, i tend to lean towards Tool overall, but NIN is also quite good, and are good live.

Speaking of NIN, their new single "Came Back Haunted" is pretty bland and boring IMO. I expect Tool's new album (which will hopefully be released this year or next) will be a lot more interesting.
