Pantera, in no order, which is also tough because I could have all 10 be from either Cowboys or Vulgar Display: The Art of Shredding (Cowboys) Medicine Man (Cowboys) Mouth for War (Vulgar Display) Walk (Vulgar Display) Over and Out (Power Metal) Down Below (Power Metal) Shedding Skin (Far Beyond Driven) 25 Years (Far Beyond Driven) Drag the Waters (Great Southern Trendkill) Out for Blood (Projects in the Jungle)

Yeah, he does have plenty of great softer tracks. I picked tracks that cover the whole spectrum, since I love pretty much anything when it comes Ayreon. And yeah, Transitus only has a couple songs I would have even considered picking (Talk of the Town and Dumb Piece of Rock), while I didn't even consider anything from The Theory of Everything, despite giving that album an easy 5 stars, because that one is the definition of "whole package", in that it's literally impossible to pick out separate tracks from it, due to how its structured. The Human Equation is definitely best when listened to as a whole, but I find a lot of its tracks work fine separately, as well. Maybe because Days 11 and 16 were the first two Ayreon tracks I ever heard, and they've stuck with me ever since.
Since I'm posting again, I'll do Hammerfall. They're easy, because I find they're more a "Greatest Hits" type of band, where every album has a few huge standouts, and the rest is generally solid, but unspectacular. Patient Zero (Infected) Riders of the Storm (Crimson Thunder) Hearts on Fire (Crimson Thunder) The Dragon Lies Bleeding (Glory to the Brave) Hector's Hymn (r)Evolution) Natural High (Threshold) Dia de Los Muertos (Infected) At the End of the Rainbow (Legacy of Kings) Dominion (Dominion) Living in Victory (Renegade) |

I know what you mean. It's also an extra difficult one for me due to Into the Electric Castle being my favourite album. I could so easily have 10 just from that. I was going to do Ayreon next myself actually. We have some of the same picks and there are some close contenders I've had to leave off. The Castle Hall (Into the Electric Castle) Amazing Flight (Into the Electric Castle) Across the Rainbow Bridge (Into the Electric Castle) Cosmic Fusion (Into the Electric Castle) Comatose (01011001) The Fifth Extinction (01011001) The Sixth Extinction (01011001) Carried by the Wind (The Dream Sequencer) Planet Y Is Alive (The Source) Into the Black Hole (Flight of the Migrator) That list completely shafts The Human Equation, which is probably my 2nd favourite Ayreon by this point, but it's more of a whole package album for me. The Days that would probably get into a top 20 would be 6, 7, 10, 11 & 16. Perhaps unsurprisingly there's nothing from Transitus in here. That's even more of a whole package Ayreon album. A funny thing to note with Ayreon and me is that I often favour the softer tracks as the most individually memorable. Or the epics at the other end of the scale.

Ayreon
Day 11: Love (The Human Equation) Everybody Dies (The Source) Day 16: Loser (The Human Equation) Dawn of a Million Souls (The Universal Migrator Part 2: Flight of the Migrator) The Sixth Extinction (01011001) Age of Shadows (01011001) Charm of the Seer (The Final Experiment) Across the Rainbow Bridge (Into the Electric Castle) The Castle Hall (Into the Electric Castle) Run! Apocalypse! Run! (The Source) This was tough, because obviously they're all concept albums, so I did my best to mostly stick with songs I think work well even out of context, though obviously they're all best when listened to within the albums.

Definitely one of the hardest bands to choose a top 10 from. I would also definitely have The Clairvoyant and Aces High in my list. I would add Where Eagles Dare and Infinite Dreams too but the remaining 6 would be a massive challenge.

Iron Maiden, which is going to be a real tricky one given the size of the discography and not just listing the entire Seventh Son album as a starting point.
Aces High (Powerslave) Powerslave (Powerslave) Afraid to Shoot Strangers (Fear of the Dark) Moonchild (Seventh Son) The Evil That Men Do (Seventh Son) The Clairvoyant (Seventh Son) To Tame a Land (Piece of Mind) Dance of Death (Dance of Death) The Nomad (Brave New World) Empire of the Clouds (Book of Souls) Really shafting some tracks and whole albums with that list, but it's the gut feeling list for this morning and doesn't align with Last.fm plays at all.

Dream Theater
A Change of Seasons (A Change of Seasons) In the Presence of Enemies (both parts) (Systematic Chaos) The Ministry of Lost Souls (Systematic Chaos) Glass Prison (Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence) In the Name of God (Train of Thought) Octavarium (Octavarium) The Count of Tuscany (Black Clouds & Silver Linings) The Spirit Carries On (Scenes from A Memory) Home (Scenes from a Memory) Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper (Images & Words) They're a bit strange, in that a lot of my favorite tracks are on albums that overall aren't among my favorites (Systemaic Chaos, Octavarium, Train of Thought, hell even Images & Words isn't actually a personal favorite), while some of my favorite albums don't really have standouts, I just love them overall (Awake, The Astonishing, S/T). And yeah, I kinda have a bias for their epic length tracks

I’ll go for Mastodon but in a very interchangeable order which would probably be different had you started this thread last month and different again if you asked me next month
The Last Baron (Crack the Skye) Workhorse (Remission) I am Ahab (Leviathan) Megalodon (Leviathan) Sleeping Giant (Blood Mountain) Hearts Alive (Leviathan) Divinations (Crack the Skye) The Wolf is Loose (Blood Mountain) Naked Burn (Leviathan) The Czar (Crack the Skye) |

Clutch, the first song is probably my favorite song of all time from anyone, but the rest isn't in order: The Dragonfly (The Elephant Riders) A Shogun Named Marcus (Transnational Speedway League) Tight Like That (Clutch) The Soapmakers (The Elephant Riders) The Incomparable Mr. Flannery (Robot Hive / Exodus) Ship of Gold (The Elephant Riders) Sinkemlow (Pure Rock Fury) Animal Farm (Clutch) Walking in the Great Shining Path of Monster Trucks (Transnational Speedway League) The Elephant Riders (The Elephant Riders) I could've honestly just put the entire The Elephant Riders album as my 10 favorites, but that would kind of defeat the purpose.

Thought this might be interesting. Pick one artist per post and list your top 10 tracks from them. Last.fm optional, but you can go on most played if you like. If you're like me there will be some artists where the Last stats don't align with your actual feelings. Top 10's can be ranked, but don't have to be if its too difficult.
So to start, the first artist I'm going to pick is, no surprises here, my favourite band Blind Guardian. And my top 10 tracks, in no order would have to be: Journey Through the Dark (from Somewhere Far Beyond) A Past and Future Secret (from Imaginations From the Other Side) Somewhere Far Beyond (from Somewhere Far Beyond) Tommyknockers (from Tales From the Twilight World) Time What is Time (from Somewhere Far Beyond) Traveller in Time (from Tales From the Twilight World) The Script for My Requiem (from Imaginations From the Other Side) The Bard's Song: In the Forest (from Somewhere Far Beyond) Born in a Mourning Hall (from Imaginations From the Other Side) Imaginations From the Other Side (from Imaginations From the Other Side) No surprise either I guess that they're all from my top three Blind Guardian albums.
