Swallow the Sun is great even if I haven't listened to the newest album very much. Not really a doom fan either, but it's a good band nonetheless.

lately Ive been discovering the Danish death metal band Illdisposed ( http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/illdisposed.aspx?ac=illdis) and written a bunch of reviews ( not posted yet). Its another one of the Danish acts that I never really gave much of a chance back in the nineties. I remember listening to their debut, but its only recently that Ive listened to anything else by them. I wouldnt call it an obsession though, as I find much of their material to be way too standard. Especially their later output where they flirt a bit too much with melodeath, arent to my taste.

I saw them live a couple of months ago and thats where you should see them. They kick ass on stage.

Swallow the Sun is brilliant Clap Four albums, an EP and not one weak track so far. They are a bit stuck in their pattern, but still produce quality stuff. Barren Earth is a recommended band to check out if you enjoy Swallow the Sun, Mikko Kotamki sings/growls for them too.

Mikko Kotamki is also involved in Alghazanth and Verivala (among others) which are my favourite projects of his - black metal, yes, so I won't suggest those bands for everyone, but for those into the genre (Alghazanth being more symphonic and almost progressive, Verivala old school), recommended. :-)

After all these years of knowing them and reading about them, I've finally found the music of Mtley Cre. Good stuff, I've listened to almost all their discography yesterday and today.

Finally off my nothing but Opeth binge

Now obsessed with In Flames.
What do yall think? Their first 2 albums are great! Shame they become such generic mainstream junk later on. But Lunar Strain and The Jester Race are brilliant.
Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Testament. The real Big Four of thrash metal!

I used to think the same thing about In Flames, but recently I took a listen and reviewed a couple of their latest albums, and I found them moderately enjoyable. I thought they would be much worse.

In Flames are one of those bands for which the term "guilty pleasure" was invented. Good or not, the songs (particularly the later ones) are catchy as hell, and they can burrow quite deep in one's mind. I don't say it often, but I like In Flames.

I lost my interest in In Flames after Reroute to Remain came out, but the one time a year that I revisit Colony and Clayman are always enjoyable. I don't think I've heard a single song after Reroute. Should review the albums the next time I listen to them.

This is pretty much where I'm at now. Not only listening to Opeth these days though, but an awful lot. After getting the Candlelight Years compilation I'm completely back into them.

It's definitely worth the money though. Especially MAYH struck me as an incredible album.

Well, it's well within the irony of the whole "guilty pleasure" thing that I can't *recommend* anything. If I had my way, I'd say it's all crap, but it happens to be crap that really gets me, for some reason.

That being said, try this:

I've been listening to a lot of Opeth, Still Life mostly.
Also, maudlin of the Well's Bath and Leaving Your Body Map; two extraordinary and completely original albums by all means.
Some Kayo Dot as well. Trying to get into them more.

I've been really into System Divide's album lately, in preparation for a Sea of Tranquility review. Really great progressive/melodic death metal. I wrote their bio here: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/system-divide.aspx?ac=system%20divide

Lots of love for Opeth these days, I too have spinned their entire discography in a couple of days and planning to continue tomorrow at least with Orchid and Morningrise Thumbs Up Once again I'm reminded why they're one of my favourite bands.
