I know it was a painting by Johan Christian Dahl before it was an album cover, but anyone find it kinda bad form for a new black metal band to be using the same picture (just flipped with colours changed and a little tree added) of a rather famous release by Windir?

^ Yeah that does seem really off to me. I know that several of Theodor Kittelsen's artworks have been used by different artists but you don't see anyone using the pictures that feature on Burzum's stuff, not counting a paraody I came across once. This band surely has to know and have made the consious decision to use the same painting.

I thought when I glanced at the new releases that that one had shades of 1184 about it. I know why now.

Not a new album but Mare Cognitum is re-issuing debut album The Sea Which Has Become Known this month. Love the new artwork.

^ Same here. The original one was rather amateurish.

Just going to drop this here as well: https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/2018
RYM doesn't allow for a custom 2018 chart that can be filtered by genre yet (their 2017 chart was finally updated today) but you can pick up on a few metal releases from this overall chart already. Not sure if we have them all on the site or not so fellow collabs this is a good place to pick up some early 2018 additions. I'll be having a better look tomorrow.

EM also has a list of upcoming releases but they mix reissues in with new albums.

With a new Judas Priest, Loudness, Visigoth, and now Saxon on the way, 2018 looks like it's going to be a great year for classic heavy metal.

This really sucks, tbh. Whatever sound effects they're using are ear-bleedingly bad. I'm really scared about this album now.

Hmm, not sure what you're on about. I'm not really hearing anything that sounds untoward there. The song is more doomy than expected but otherwise seems a fairly normal Rebellion heavy metal track.

It's most notable during the chorus. There's these sounds where it's like they're trying to make it sound dark and creepy or something, but it just makes my ears hurt, and is incredibly distracting.

I do hear something there, but to my ears its so much behind Michael's lead vocals that I don't really notice it too much. For me I can't say I'd be fussed if it was there or not.
