Well I'd also agree on best since Octavarium (tough to say anything otherwise) but that is still maybe a 3 star lol
SC grew on me as did Black Clouds so I expect the same to happen, problem is those 2 albums are still very inconsistent. Honestly, except for a few albums that was always DT's problem for me. Heritage is very Opethian, in fact my beef with it thus far is the lack of...difference. I was really hoping for something more, not just a clean Opeth. It's good, probably will land at 4 stars when fully digested. It sounds like a 70's crunchy metal, and not even on all songs...its borderline for me but I'll throw it on the 2011 metal list. What is the new WITTR like? I only know "Two Hunters" and was surprised because I expected pure BM. |

I've only listened to ADToE once, but I do like what I hear a lot so it has a chance to upset at least my top ten.

I'm sooo bad with new music
So ADToE will probably land on my top 10 as well. I am enjoying the album overall, just some of the songs put me to sleep. Unrelated: I fuckin love that avy. Mad piano wizard. |

I'm slightly disappointed by the new Opeth. Maybe it needs some more time to grow, but the compositions feel extremely disjointed IMO and the 70's prog vibe feels more like a gimmick than an integral part of the music. It has it's moments... it just hasn't blown me away like any of their other albums have. I'm currently at a 3 - 3.5.

Thank you And about Opeth, I like their new album, but I do agree with you a little bit Jeff, but we'll see what it's like in a couple weeks. |

I'm slowly starting to love the new Opeth personally. But I do have to say I would like the sound on this album to be a one-off like Damnation.
In other news: Looks set to go straight to the top of my 2011 list. Stream it here: http://www.metalinsider.net/new-music/stream-anubis-gates-new-self-titled-album

I'm a huge Grails fan. Deep Politics is my album of the year...so far. Check out thier 2007 release, Burning Off Impurities. Alot more heavy with middle-eastern ambiences. Outstanding.

AdToE is surprisingly good, Opeth a bit disappointed. But I can't wait to hear the new Leprous!

Had a listen to Celestial Lineage yesterday, sounds pretty damn good to me. I'm also liking Epoch a lot more than I did before.

New Dream Theater sounds about as good as it could have been. Definitely their weakest in years, but still good.

Boris' Attention Please is far better than the new Heavy Rocks, shame it's not metal.

After a slow start this year is really picking up. Heritage has finally released (though IMHO not quite enough metal to be metal so I cant put it on my list) though it's damn fine. Of course "Iconoclast" is still at the top of my 2011 list.
Still waiting to hear this upcoming Russian Circles and "The Hunter" by Mastodon is up for official listening on YT and I'm liking it! Still need to hear the new WITTR and some others I'm forgetting. Oh! Also Megadeth's next album is coming out this year. I enjoyed Endgame and the song "Sudden Death" was pretty good so I have some hopes for the album. Gah, Animals as Leaders is another one coming out this year. Oh my wallet will hate me. Edited by The Angry Scotsman - 22 Sep 2011 at 3:44am |

I havent got enough to make a definitive top 10... but Mastodon, Machine Head, Anthrax, Architects, Devil Driver, Rise To Remain, Arctic Monkeys and Chimaira's are all between OK and Amazing
