I love going thru Dtguitarfan's 'rate your music' page. His tastes are similar to mine, and I always discover good new music.

Going to pick up MindMaze's debut album after reading about them on his page, then youtube-ing a couple of their songs Smile

Neurosis is 2012.  In fact it was #11 on our collab list last year ;)

I listened to the whole album for the first time while running in the forest and I'm telling you, I don't usually jog for 100 minutes. I just realized when it ended that it's already getting dark. That may be one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my life.

Let's just say, there is a reason a healthy chunk of long time Kayo Dot fans are calling it their favourite release yet.  I'm still not sold on it being better than Choirs, but it's probably solidly tied for 2nd with Coyote.  I will have to give it more time.

Marco ("Polo" over on progarchives) is of the opinion that Hubardo puts bands like Deathspell Omega to shame when it comes to extreme metal

Dunno who that Marco (or these "prog archives") is, but there are some other artists that put Deathspell Omegas to shame in that field, Kayo Dot being one of them. Anyway, Choirs is a great album, I love it, but Hubardo is the only magic lantern that lets me see beyond the horizon... [/awkward&lofty] yep, I recommend it.

List as of 05.10.2013:

1. Kayo Dot - Hubardo
Guys, seriously, even if you didn't like any previous album from Kayo Dot or motW, CHECK THIS OUT, it's very different! A gigantic concept album that bends the rules of space-time continuum (It feels like a 30 minutes of a breakneck ride through a surreal dream, while in fact it's a 99 minute long album).

2. Kvelertak - Meir
Eclectic, passionate and kicks ass.

3. Cult of Luna - Vertikal
Sludge/post-metal with great concept as the main inspiration both lyrics and music-wise.

4. Riverside - Shrine of New Generation Slaves
Great and accessible modern prog, as emotional as ever.

5. Fen - Dustwalker

Very good stuff, and going without keyboards was an admirable move.

Other albums:
Grayceon - Pearl & The End of Days
Ov Hollowness - The World Ends
Intronaut   Habitual Levitations
Immolation - Kingdom Of Conspiracy
Suffocation - Pinnacle Of Bedlam
Kylesa - Ultraviolet
Meshuggah - Pitch Black
Cloudkicker - Subsume

Waiting for:
Oranssi Pazuzu - Valonielu
Vaura - The Missing

I've been listening to a few 2013 metal albums this year.
Wrekmeister Harmonies - You've Always Meant So Much To Me
Yodok - Yodok #2 (arguably drone doom done with Tubas)
Lesbian - Forestelevision
Sabazius - The Descent of Man (not that often though...)
Onde Sphrique - Curriculum Mortis

The best thing I've heard this year isn't even metal in the slightest though, it's Dennis Johnson's November, a five hour minimalist piano composition from 1962 in a similar vein to La Monte Young's The Well Tuned Piano. Wonderful stuff.

I havent been too enthalled by what Ive heard so far in 2013, but the last couple of releases that Ive listened to have changed my somewhat lurk warm feelings about 2013.

New Satyricon is a great album
New Carcass is a great album
New Gorguts is a masterpiece to my ears.

All three are almost sure to end up in my top 10 for 2013.

I hope the new Fates Warning will knock my socks off too.
