I liked Chucks voice before he went too high pitched and processed on the last Death album, but John Tardy has always had a special place in my book. One of the most powerful and distinct sounding growling vocalists in the biz...

I'll go with Chuck since I am listening to Death at this very moment Besides some of John Tardy's stuff is just noises rather than words not meant as a criticism!

I think Chuck Schuldiner was a more talented musician overall, but John Tardy's vocals are probably more impressive (if only narrowly IMO). I'll give the vote to Chuck since he's one of metal's most gifted writers and guitarists in addition to being a great vocalist.

I like Tardy's vocals better. They're an acquired taste but they're much more distinguished. As Jonas said, he's probably one of the most easily recognizable voices in death metal, for what it's worth. Can't make any comparisons beyond that.

Oh and for Tardy fans, do yourself a favour and check out the first two albums by the German act Incubator: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/incubator.aspx?ac=incubat
Especially this one: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/incubator--mcgillroy-the-housefly.aspx Ive added quite a few samples from the album to the profile. |

I still need to buy myself copies of those albums. I remember loving the clips I've heard from both, but they are expensive as fuck online and I've yet to run across them in record stores. I really wish somebody would re-issue those...
