"Death Revenge" is the first demo by Swedish thrash metal act Hellfire. The demo was independently released in 1986. Hellfire formed sometime before 1985 under the Black Death monicker, changed their name and worked under the Hellfire monicker from 1985-1986, changed their name to Morbid Sin, and again changed their name in 1987 to Chronic Decay. "Death Revenge" is the only release under the Hellfire monicker.
Stylistically Hellfire play a strongly German thrash metal influenced style of music. It´s like listening to early Kreator, Sodom, and Destruction. It´s savage, raw, and aggressive speed/thrash metal. The demo features 5 tracks and a total playing time of 12:46 minutes, so the tracks aren´t that long, but Hellfire manage to get their angry snarling message across just fine in the short time the demo lasts. A little more variation between and within tracks would have made the demo a more interesting listen, because it basically sounds like the same song being played all the way through the playing time, but with music like this that´s of course not a major issue...but an issue it is. The sound production is amaturish, but while "Death Revenge" isn´t exactly a pleasant listen, there´s some raw charm to it, which saves Hellfire.
When that is said "Death Revenge" doesn´t bring anything new or improved to the raw euro speed/thrash genre, and there are so many other contemporary artists delivering this style of music in a much more convincing manner on releases with much better sounding productions. A 2 star (40%) rating is warranted.
