Alkonost is a Folk Metal band from Russia. They take their name from the goddess of the land of the dead of Slavic mythology, Алконост. She is pictured as a half-woman/half-bird. The band has been active since 1996 and have had many line-up changes over the years revolving around guitarist Andrey "Elk" Losev. Their first album, Songs of the Eternal Oak, was released in 2000.
Alkonost typically produce two versions of their songs, one in their native Russian and one as an English version, although this isn't always the case. For example the album На крыльях зова (2010) is a Russian only album, even though a version exists with English titles (On the Wings of the Call).
To date, Alkonost have produced a total of nine full-length albums, counting English and Russian versions of the same songs. Their most recent album is Tales of Wanderings (2015), which is the English version of
