Back When was a sludge metal / post-metal / mathcore band from Omaha in Nebraska, formed in 2002.
Back When disbanded in 2008.
The band features a former member of prolific Midwest hardcore/sludge band Exam and sharing members of Omaha hardcore bands such as Robots Don’t Cry, Caught In The Fall and Eyes Of Verotika, the music has a strong hardcore vibe to go alongside the sludge metal.
Back When’s debut EP, Celebration of Alceste, was released on Imagine It Records in 2003, and featured fast crushing riffs at breakneck speeds. In 2005 the band released the, Swords Against the Father 7" single on Init Records. This was followed by Back When’s first full-length album, We Sang As Ghosts. The album contains epic songs that jump all genres to create electronic soundscapes where mammoth riffs, pounding drums and quiet interludes intertwine.
