Congress was a Belgian H8000 metalcore band from West Flanders, formed in 1993. Congress disbanded in 2006.
Congress formed in the cold winter of 1993. At that time, all hardcore activity in Belgium reached it’s low point. The youth crew-hype and emobands were ruling the scene and heavy, metallic HC was just not done. Congress tried to blend the speed, aggression and passion of HC with the technique and heaviness of metal. Major influences were Integrity, Ringworm, Subzero, Bad Brains, Slayer and Master.
A demo was recorded after half a year of rehearsals and after the demo, the first singer Roy left the band. Pierre was the new frontman and several gigs later, the first 7”/MCD ‘Euridium’ was recorded. This record blew up the european HC scene and many bands were inspired by Congress’sound.
In 1995, the first full length was recorded for Goodlife recordings, a new local label that gave european bands
