Cromok is a thrash metal band from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Unusually though, the band formed in Wollongong, Australia, in 1987, when original members Sam, Karl, Din and Miji were studying at university.
In 1991 Sam, Karl and Miji graduated and return to Malaysia, while Din continued his studies in Australia. Cromok's first album "Image of Purity" was released that year to much acclaim by fans, but achieved little success due to government restrictions on thrash metal.
This line-up released two more albums, until the untimely death of Din in 1997, from what was initially thought to be a drug overdose, but turned out to be malaria.
The band continued as a three piece, and released another album in 1999. Karl then decided to leave the band, so Sam and Miji recruited Hillary Ang from iconic Malaysian rockers Search. This line-up recorded two albums.
