Direwolf is a technical progressive black metal project founded in 2000 in Brooklyn, New York by Mike Lerner, guitarist with Behold the Arctopus.
Direwolf was conceived of by Lerner in 2001 but it took Mike 7 years to write and record his debut album "Beyond the lands of human existence" (2007) which was released through the indie record label Blastard Entertainment. The album was solely recorded by Mike Lerner who plays all guitars, basses, synth, drums and drum programming as well as singing all vocals ( raspy black metal vocals as well as clean vocals)
The sound on "Beyond the lands of human existence" is hard to catagorize as it holds elements from many genres. Futuristic progressive black metal could be a valid description. The lyrical concept is set in a sci-fi universe. The music is not as focused on technical playing as it is in Mike Lerner´s main band
