EICHENSCHILD is a Heavy Folk band hailing from Bischofswerda/Dresden, Germany. Its members used to play in a band called Smokers Corner. From their fascination with medieval culture, myths and legends stemmed their wish to deal with those subjects in their music as well. In the autumn of 1998 the first songs were written, and the band was named after the character of the Dwarf king Thorin Oakenshield (“Eichenschild” in German) in Tolkien’s book “The Hobbit”. Their earliest instrumentation included guitar, bass and drums, while bagpipes and flute were added later.
During the next two years EICHENSCHILD mostly rehearsed their material and played a few shows, before their debut album, “Mondscheinlegenden” – a completely self-produced effort – was released in 2000.
