Father Golem is a progressive metal band from Madrid in Spain. Founded in 1999, live performances were originally based on the concept work, Chronicles of the First Crusade until their first release. “The End of Poetry” in 2001 saw the band take a more progressive approach to their metal music, also incorporating other rock and alternative metal influences. The band’s desire to further explore progressive metal as a genre was evident in their 2006 follow-up, “Nemesis”. “I/O”, released in 2012, saw Father Golem incorporating jazz into their progressive metal, with a string quartet, trumpets, saxophone and unusual percussion used to develop a more eclectic style of music.
The original line up of Father Golem was Dani Castro (vocals, lyrics), Fernando Sanjuán (guitar), Nacho García (guitar), José Ramón Valdivieso (guitar), Alfonso Cifo (bass) and Miguel Cifo (drums). Tensions arising from the musical direction taken in producing Nemeis lead to Alfonso and Miguel Cifo
