Front Line Assembly is a Canadian industrial band from Vancouver, British Columbia. They were formed in 1986 by Bill Leeb after he left Skinny Puppy. In the same year, Leeb recorded two demos with him being the only "official member". While helping out with mixing on Front Line Assembly's 1987 debut, The Initial Command, Michael Balch became an official member of the band in 1988.
In 1989, the band released their album Gashed Senses & Crossfire, which became their first chart success with the single "Digital Tension Dementia". The band went on their first tour, and recorded their first live album on the same tour. Blach left the band after the tour to join Ministry and Revolting Cocks, and was replaced by Rhys Fulber who was the live drummer on the 1989 tour.
Fulber ushered in the band's most commercially successful era, with many regarding 1992's Tactical Neural Implant as a classic
