UK act HAMMER was formed in a rather peculiar manner in 1984. The band, consisting of Marty Wilkinson (vocals), Kenny Nicholson (guitars), Bob Henman (guitars), Graeme Hutchinson (bass) and Marty Day (drums) had actually formed in 1982, then sporting the moniker Holland, and were signed by underground metal label Ebony Records, who issued their début album.
When a Canadian band named Holland were prepared to take legal action against the UK version, they decided that the easy way out was for them to change moniker. Hammer was the chosen name.
They were already well into the creation of their second album "Contract With Hell" at that point, a production that saw the light of day in 1985.
The change of band name didn't give this outfit much of a new start though. Guitarist Nicholson became increasingly unhappy with the musical direction the band had started taking, while he enjoyed the heavier material and
