Humble Pie is an English blues rock band formed in Essex in 1969. The band's name comes from an English idiom meaning to apologize and face up for your mistakes. They were one of the 60's first supergroups and consisted of Peter Frampton from The Herd, Steve Marriott from The Small Faces, bassist Greg Ridley and teenage drummer Jerry Shirley.
The band released their debut, As Safe As Yesterday Is in 1969. A heavy blues rock album, it actually garnered one of the first instances of the term heavy metal in a 1970 review by future Angry Samoans singer Mike Saunders for Rolling Stone, where he says that on the album Humble Pie "were a noisy, unmelodic, heavy metal-leaden shit-rock band, with the loud and noisy parts beyond doubt".
