INQUISITOR is a melodic progressive black metal band from Lithuania. The history of Inquisitor can be traced back to 2002. However, the first home recordings were followed by a succession of line-up changes and the first official demo ‘Prelude’ (a self-release CD) appeared only in 2005. Given the demo was an account of almost three years of musical evolution, ‘Prelude’ contains 6 quite diverse symphonic dark-metal pieces. The following years witnessed a change in Inquisitor’s sound with the band incorporating black and avant garde elements alongside their existing harsh riffing and melodic passages.
In 2007 after declining to push some self-recordings into public, Inquisitor finally focussed on creating a multi-layered album that would comprise a pseudo-plot with a single lyrical theme and characters. This idea developed into an album, The Quantum Theory of Id, which was recorded in summer 2008 and released two years later.
