MANIC DEPRESSIVE PSYCHOSIS is a progressive metal band from Yerevan in Armenia. Formed in 1990, MDP is a highly important band in the history of Armenian progressive rock. Their first offering was the cassette release Usurper of the Sun Rays in 1993, an effort blending elements of heavy art rock and psychedelic progressive rock. Just one year after this release the band was on the verge of disbanding until two musicians from Armenian heavy metal outfit Soma joined the ranks. This new line-up recorded a single straight away, The River.
MDP then relocated to Russia, to try to pursue a viable music career there. While there they recorded and released the EP Take Your Nibbled Apple Back in 1995, a venture exploring a rather peculiar form of experimental progressive metal.
