Masquerage was created on the backbone of Nizhny Novgorod locally known bands in 1998. One year later the band recorded and issued an EP, "Walpurgisnight" (12:16) which was inspired by Dream Theater and Symphony X and highly appreciated by special press. As a result, this composition was included in "Valiant Forces - Russian Attack vol.1", the first compilation of Russian Progressive Metal/ Progressive Rock Bands. This small suite describes the conclusion of the treaty between Faust and Mephistopheles and contains citations from opera "Faust" by Guno. In 2005 the musicians started to record a fully conception album based on a novel by Klaus Mann. The band members call their style as "symphonic metal influenced by art rock and classical music" but they are too original to be sharply categorized.
