Misfit was the original name of the progressive metal band Fates Warning. At this point in their career they were a traditional heavy metal band.
After a couple of demos they band changed their name, initially keeping with the same style before evolving first into a US power metal act and then the progressive metal act they are today.
Of the Misfit line-up only guitarist Jim Matheos remains with Fates Warning today.
